April 21, 2013 - 5-Ship Form Flight
Spring is here! The earth is turning green. Finally. Here I am just finished crossing the bay and flying over the Eastern Shore north of Rock Hall. I'm on my way to Ridgely Airport to meet up with Dragon Fligh t for a five-ship flight.
The weather is pretty good although it
is a little cold. | ||||||
On deck at Ridgely. On the left is Mugsy's RV-8 and center right is Tommy's CJ.
My 7 lined up with Chef's 4 and
Lawbreaker's 8. | ||||||
A professional aviation photographer named "Chappie" was riding in Tommy's back seat. He took these great pictures.
Echelon turn. | ||||||
Mugsy breaking left while Chef waits.
Myself and Lawbreaker in
formation. Tommy was flying off Lawbreaker's wing.
I'm breaking left while the rest of the formation waits for their turn.
As close to two P-51 Mustangs as you're
ever gonna get. | ||||||
We practiced hard for about 45 minutes then headed south to Cambridge for some lunch.
After lunch at Cambridge, Mugsy and I
flew around for awhile, then landed at Easton Airport.
"Postal" -- one of the great callsigns -- taxiied up in his Marquis Charger so we talked with him for awhile.
We also talked with Carl who drives a
Taylorcraft. Carl was headed north to check out a grass airstrip on
the Chester River so I flew along with him for awhile.
Carl -- pictured left center -- flies down low over the grass airstrip. I've flown over this strip many times but never landed there. Then I headed home across the bay. Good aviation day.
